New York, New York

While writing out my goals earlier this year, I told myself that I would make it out to New York by the end of 2012.  And not only make it out to New York, but go to shoot.  For work.  With clients.

At the time it seemed like a really tall order.  Taller than my tall Calm tea at Starbucks.  Taller than all the tall dudes that Bryan works with (they are tall).  In fact it felt so tall that I felt like I was giving the Empire State building a run for its money.

I mean, I know I can shoot anywhere.  I live in LA, and there’s so much to shoot here.  But you know how much I like to travel.  New York was just calling me.  Like twelve times a day.  With that Alicia Keys/Jay-Z ring tone.

I don’t know how it happened, maybe the universe was throwing me a bone.  But somehow, serendipitously, an opportunity popped up.  Before I could think twice, I grabbed it.  From there, another opportunity came up.  I grabbed that too.  Then another.  I may have created that last one myself (and it’s gonna be BOMB).

Long story short, I’m going to New York, baby.  I’m making this ish happen!

YEAH BUDDY.

ALSO.  Since I’m not out there as much as I’d like to be, I wanted to put it out there that I am squeezing in more shooting time!  If you’d like to schedule a session in New York, so send me an email!   I’ll be there shooting from Sept 21-24.  I’ll most likely only be adding two more spots, so get them before they’re gone, yo.

I’m so stoked for this trip and also what’s to come for the rest of the year.  If you haven’t signed up for the Glamour mailing list yet, the details are being sent out soon, so don’t miss it!  Head over to the main site and fill out the contact form with the work “Glamour” in the subject line.

There are so many fun projects in the works, and this is just the beginning.  I can’t wait to share them all with you, it’s going to be a fun ride!

Los Angeles Portraits / Zach B

It’s raining men!  Okay, not really.  But two guy posts in a row, I think that’s a first for me.  I told you I shoot men too!

So Zach was looking to have some photos done for his website and some other promo stuff.  He’s a freaking INSANE artist, yo.  He makes MONSTERS for a living!  Check his stuff out!

Meet Zach!  aka baller artist:

He’s a cool dude.

But making people laugh is my specialty.  Luckily Zach obliged.

I may have screamed, “LAUGH MOTHERFUCKEEEEER!” at one point.  Hey, you have to do what you have to do.  He thought it was hilarious.

We ended by the water, possibly in the ocean by the crashing waves.  I just held my camera over my head.  Totally worth it.

Los Angeles Music Photography / Constantine

I tend to post lots of women, but I definitely love shooting men too.  This particular shoot was a bit of a departure from my usual style, but I wanted to share some of my favs of R&B singer Constantine:

The rocks rocks and boulders we found provided for an awesome backdrop.

You know I love me some black and white photos:

Just around the corner from the rocks, we found this amazing moss and greenery.

Constantine really is such a happy dude, and so easy going.  He was up for anything and trusted me completely.  That alone made my job so much easier, and I believe the results that much better.

The shipyard provided for another great location.

My favorite from the day.  I feel like you can see right into him.

Big thank you to Nancy for her help at this shoot!

Los Angeles Glamour & Boudoir Portraits / MTV

I’ve been doing a lot of glamour shooting lately!  Loveeeeed this shoot.  Homegirl is beautimus, isn’t she?

Esp love her look on the right.

I’ve never really considered myself a boudoir photographer, but I love cheeky shots like this.  Pun?  Totally intended.

This is exactly the type of photo I love to take, casual, comfortable, yet beautiful:

She had a boy’s shirt, so of course we had her throw that on!  So cute for girls to sneak out with a shirt and surprise their dude with a photo later.

I die die die.  I love me some black and white FEROSHNESS.

We had tons of fun.

Glamour Weekend

Glamour weekend is coming!!  This September in Los Angeles – Professional hair, makeup, photos, and lots of fun!

Click here to be added the mailing list, just type ‘glamour’ in the subject line.  We won’t be doing another one for the rest of the year, so you don’t wanna miss it!

Hair/Makeup for the above by the talented Jennifer De La Rosa.

Happy People

I love happy people.  I really believe that people are their most beautiful when they are happy.  Smiling and laughing.

It’s the light in your eyes and big bright smile that make you who you uniquely are.  That, to me, is what’s really interesting.

I loved shooting Meredith because she wasn’t afraid to just be happy.  To be silly and fun.

These are just a few of my favorites, but wait til you see the rest.

A huge thanks to the supremely talented Jennifer De La Rosa for a beautiful job on hair/makeup.

Pink Moroccan Roses

I was at World Market recently while visiting my parents and spotted these beauties…

Those rose petals ($7.99) are soap!  Each time you wash your hands, you just peel back a petal.  Isn’t that genius?  And so pretty!  I also spotted the ring holder ($4.99) there, which felt very Anthropologie to me.  I love a look for less!

Then I came  home and married the two:

And they’re now hanging out together by the sink in our bathroom, replenished when guests come over.

Happiness

Wow!  It feels like it’s been forever, doesn’t it?  I guess it kind of has.  After three weeks of traveling, I’m back in LA (for now!) and getting myself back into my regular routine.  I’ve missed getting up, having breakfast, brewing some tea, and walking over and waking up my sleeping giant of a computer.  There is strangely some comfort in sitting in front of this glowing machine.  It’s been a long three weeks, and I am very happy to be back.

While I was away, I took one of my favorite photos ever.  My bestie, her husband, and her pregnant belly.

Happiness.

Los Angeles Portraits / Ali L.

Ali is the type of person that you meet and immediately like.  She’s quick to smile and laugh and put you at ease.  I first met her when we did Jackie’s shoot, and she was so supportive and loving toward her sister, helping with anything that she needed.  You can see between the both of them the strong bond that they share, and it was a really touching thing to see.  This time around, Jackie came and helped out at Ali’s shoot, was just as supportive, and we all had such a blast.  I really do feel so lucky to be able to work with such awesome, fun people.

I  could go on and on, but we’d be here forever, so I’ll just shut up already and show you the photos!

I love images in black and white, and this just feels so emotive to me…

Ali was killin it for real.

One of my absolute favorites:

Shooting up in the mountains is amazing.  I especially love the image on the right.

I kept screaming “WORK IT, GIRL!”  Sometimes crazy, incoherent things just come out of my mouth.  But you have to agree, she was working it!

Ah-mazing.  I died.

I love that Ali can go from super fun to serious (bombshell!) in a matter of moments.

Love this profile…

You might recognize the photo on the left from the sneak peek.  Love her pose on the right.

I leave you with another favorite, a black and white, it just feels so beautiful and classic to me…  just like Miss Ali.
